What is it Like to be a Guest at Chalet Bonjour Athenaise?
Before you book you might want to find out exactly what it is like to stay at this lovely catered chalet Bonjour-Athenaise in La Daille, Val d’Isère – here’s some inside knowledge and information so you can get a really good feel of the chalet, it’s location, delicious food and the excellent service that we offer here at Ski Bonjour.
The Bonjour Athenaise is made up of two 8 person chalets, connected by an external staircase. On the bottom floor is the Bonjour Petit Athenaise. The chalet has 4 bedrooms and an open plan living dining area. The top floor chalet is the Bonjour Grande Athenaise. It has 4 ensuite bedrooms, a dining room and a large lounge with exposed beams and a huge picture window which captures the mountain views perfectly. The Grand Athenaise can also accommodate 2 extra people (10 in total) with built in sofa beds in the lounge area.
The chalets can be rented separately or combined. If you are looking to combine both chalets for one large group, all guests would most likely eat in the upstairs dining room together.
“Can’t fault Ski Bonjour at Chalet Athenaise. We had such an amazing time. We were a group of 17 so rented out the petite and grande sections of the chalet. They catered for everyone to eat together in the grande section of the chalet (middle level).”
“The chalet – Very comfortable and roomy. Bathrooms were very nice with hot towel rails and hot showers always on demand. Upstairs was a massive living room area which was great for having a few drinks or playing games. Lovely views from the massive window at the back looking out onto the slopes.”

Getting to the Slopes
The chalet is so close to the slopes, it would take you minutes from leaving the chalet to being on the gondola ready for your first run of the day. The Funival, Les Etroits chairlift and the Daille gondola are the most easily accessible lifts and bring you directly to the heart of the Val d’Isère ski area. If you were wanting to head over to Tignes you just take the Daille Gondola followed my Tommeuses. From this point, you can choose to descend to Tignes le Lac or Tignes Val Claret.
“A great skiing chalet in an ideal location, close to funival, bubble lift and ski bus in La Daille.
We stayed in the Petit Athenaise which sleeps up to 8 and was very comfortable with great food and excellent staff.”
Sessieb via Trip Advisor, January 2018.
“The bus stop is just a few meters away should you wish to go to the other side of the resort for access to the slopes however as the La Daille bubble and Funival Train are also just across the road you have very quick access to the mountains. If any of you are party animals the La Daille bubble takes you straight up to the legendary “La Folie Douce” which everyone should experience at least once even if it’s not usually your type of scene.”

“Don’t tell everyone … as this is just the best location for a chalet. Straight across the road for the main lifts up into the largest ski area in France.”

Getting Back to the Chalet
If you are wanting to ski back to the chalet, you can choose to go down either a green, blue or red run depending on your level. If you want off piste, the La Daille trees are great fun, especially when visibility is low (please only do this when you have checked the avalanche forecast and if you have the right equipment). The red run down to the chalet is used for the Women’s World Cup at the beginning of the season, now it’s not very often that you can say you’ve skied a world cup piste, right? For more information, have a look at the online piste map.
Getting into Central Val d’Isère
It is so easy to get into central Val d’Isère from La Daille. Opposite the chalet you will find the bus stop, the only bus that stops here is the ‘Train Rouge’ which is the free bus that takes you through Val d’Isère, up to Fornet and back. The bus comes every 5 minutes during peak times and runs till a very early 3.00am! Just hop on the bus and you’ll find yourself on the high street in central Val d’Isère in under 5 minutes. With this chalet, you have the best of both worlds, easy and fast access to the slopes and high street. If you fancied walking into Val d’Isère to soak up that beautiful mountain scenery, it will take you roughly 20 minutes.
“The bus stop is also opposite the front door so Val d’isere is a 5 minute ride if you want to visit in the evening.”

Having a Drink After the Slopes?
If you fancy a drink after a hard day on the slopes, you can pop into Le Barillon – La Rosee Blanche which is located just opposite the chalet. Perfect for a sunny day where you can soak up the sun on the terrace. If you finish the day in Val d’Isère then check out our ‘Experience Val d’Isère like a local’ blog with plenty of bar recommendations to suite your mood.
“We loved the chalet location. For those of you that know Val d’Isere well the chalet is in La Daille directly across the road from the Rosie Blanche which is a great place to stop for a drink or snack at the end of the day. As we were there late season the veranda was a great spot to soak up the afternoon sun.”

Whether you stay with us in Tignes or in Val d’Isère you will receive the same quality and consistent menu, meaning you can truly relax and enjoy your holiday while we do all the hard work.
“Food – Amazing, amazing, amazing – so much selection and catered to the relatively large array of food allergies our group had. Breakfast provided was great, always continental and hot options available. Afternoon tea cakes were a nice touch. Dinner was very creative with dishes such as duck, rabbit, chorizo risotto were just a few of the options that went down very well with our group.”

“The food we were served was fantastic and varied all week. Our chef Harry definitely knew what he is doing. I found myself eating dishes I would not usually go for and enjoying them immensely. The Chalet hosts Nicole & Rowen are both very nice, friendly and efficient at going about their duties. Mealtimes went like clockwork, the staff always looked busy but never rushed.”
