Top 10 Things To Do on a Ski Holiday in Tignes 2018
Tignes resort is very welcoming and bustling with plenty of adventurous and exciting things to do for the whole family. We have discovered that the Tignes resort have invested in a few new and fun things to do – here are our top 10 things to look out for during your ski holiday next season.
1. Palafou Luge Tignes
This is a brand new toboggan run which opened in January 2017 is located at the top of the Palafour chairlift in Tignes. The run is 3kms long with an altitude range of 471m and it has an exciting 40m tunnel on the route. There is a height restriction so it is limited to older children and adults who are looking for some fun – it’s a sporty downhill run for daredevils! The cost is €8 and it is usually open from Sunday to Friday 16:45 – 19:30 throughout the season.
There are of course a few safe sledging rules to adhere to for this thrilling ride!
- You have to be at least 1.40cm tall
- Wearing a helmet is compulsory (provided)
- Stay seated on the sledge provided – you are not allowed to go head first
- Keep your feet inside the sledge
- Keep your hands on the sledge
- Keep a 20m gap between you and the sledge in front and no linking up
- Don’t walk on the slope
- Stay on the marked luge run
- Wear your snow boots (ski boots are not allowed)
- Have lots of fun!!

2. Tignes Resort Photopoint
There are two new photo points located at the top of the Toviere gondola in Tignes. This is completely free and easy to use, all you have to do is:
- Choose your photo point – there are two places to choose from with either the Grande Motte or Mont Blanc in the back ground
- Scan your ski pass
- Get in to position
- Smile & wait for the flash (watch out for passers by & photo bombers!)
- Log on to www.skiline.cc to find your photo – you will need to create an account, your ski pass number and the date the photo was taken.
- Your photos are free to download (the Tignes logo, skiline website address, place, date and time are all automatic)
- Share your photos with your friends & family
I tried and tested this with my daughter late April last season, you can see Mont Blanc sitting proudly in the background. It also gives you plenty of room for a big crowd photo. So we’ve found out it works, it’s free and it’s easy – next year we’ll be taking lots more!
3. Snow Tubing in Val Claret
This fun activity is available in Tignes, Val Claret from 2pm to 9pm from Monday to Saturday. Take a tube, use the dedicated magic carpet and ride the special tracks at speed! If you take the bus from Tignes, get off just after the roundabout as you approach Val Claret – you’ll see the Snow Tubing hut to the right by the slopes. It’s an exciting adventure for all the family!

4. Ski Movie
Similar to the photo point this is a free & easy to use ski movie maker so that you can film yourself in the snowpark and share it with your friends. It is located half way down the Grattalu blue ski run towards Val Claret which can be accessed by the Col Du Palet, Grattalu or Merles chairlifts. This ski area is also within the Ski Start Zone 3 – so it’s a great place to film yourself if you’re still learning and getting to grips with skiing and boarding.
All you have to do is:
- Scan your ski pass
- Ski through the barrier when it bleeps
- Log on to www.skiline.cc
- You will need your ski pass number, the date you filmed and you will need to create an account (if you haven’t already done this)
- Download your ski movie free of charge and share with your friends & family
5. Microlight Flights in Val Claret
The Tignes Air Experience provide awesome panoramic microlights from the Palet altiport which is next to the bottom of the Col Des Ves chairlift. It is apparently one way to travel which won’t make you feel sick even if you suffer from vertigo or airsickness! A pendular microlight is accessible to everyone and has no restrictions for age or mobility – everyone can enjoy this spectacular view of the mountains. The cost is likely to be €80 for 15 minutes or €120 for 30 minutes.

6. Ski Touring
New Generation offer four different options for Ski Touring in Tignes; an intro to Ski Touring, 3 day Explorer, full week Explorer or an evening Ski Tour. Prices start from €80pp and the experience will take you quite literally off the beaten track. Read New Generation’s ‘Introduction to Ski Touring in Tignes’ to find out what it’s all about.
7. Bun J Ride
This is the ultimate skiing bungy jump thrill with a 30m ski ramp and a 40m drop on bungy cords – if you’re after an adrenaline rush then this is definitely for you! You will find the action at the top of the Merles chairlift just off the Merles red piste. It’s usually open everyday (except Saturdays) between 10.30am and 4.30pm. Bun J Ride costs €75 for a single jump and €125 for a tandem ‘Love Jump’.
8. Wilderness Camp
Evolution2 offer a fantastic Wilderness evening in a secret location in the woods. Start with a drink by the open fire, a traditional Savoyard dinner in the hidden yurts followed by a torchlit toboggan ride descent into les Brévières. It’s a truly unforgettable experience which costs €69pp, children must be age 14+.

You can go swimming free of charge with your 2 to 15 day Espace Killy ski pass! Located in the heart of Tignes le Lac you can access the pool each day your ski pass is valid (i.e. a 6 day pass will allow you to visit free 6 times)! Le Lagon has a fun pool with 3 slides (as pictured below), paddling pool, bubble bath, waterfall, as well as a 25m sports swimming pool.
There is also a fitness centre with a programme of different exercise classes and a wellness spa with a sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, as well as offering massage & treatments. Take a look at the Le Lagon Wellness Centre website for further information, opening times and prices.
10. Ice Skating
This is also free of charge if you have a 2 to 14 day Espace Killy lift pass. It is usually open from Christmas to the end of February – weather dependent on the naturally frozen lake. You will find the skating rink hut next to the lake if you walk along the path from the playground towards Val Claret (it’s behind the Le Lagon Swimming pool). They provide the hiring of skates free of charge too!
