Ultimate Guide to Tignes Le Lac

Tignes is a world famous high altitude snow-sure ski resort which offers immediate access into the vast Espace Killy ski region with over 300km of piste. At 2100m you are guaranteed lots of snow throughout the season.  There are a good range of bars, restaurants, shops & cafés to be found in Tignes, we have included many of them in this guide!

It positively hums with activity throughout the season with major festivals, markets, mountain activities and plenty to do on the piste such as a  half pipe, snow park and border cross park above Val Claret.  If you have still got energy left in your legs, you can top it off with cross country skiing across the lake!

Tignes high altitude of 2100m means it is also snow sure, particularly on the Grande Motte glacier, so sunny days are sure to entice you into taking full advantage of the variable skiing terrain.  The combination of long, winding pistes to build skiing confidence, through to intriguing couloirs and chutes higher up, ensures there is always something to challenge everyone.  Also the off-piste is almost limitless with a huge variety of areas to drop into – visit Tignes.net for where to explore – but just make sure you play it safe!

If you’d like to stay with Ski Bonjour we can offer you a fantastic stay in Chalet Bonjour-Tourelle which is located in the heart of Tignes next to the magnificent frozen lake.

Best View

To seek out the very best of the many spectacular views across the Espace Killy, take the high speed Palafour chairlift, then ski to the Aiguille Perceé where you can admire Tignes’ famous rock formation – the Eye of the Needle. Use the moment to gaze down at the two valleys, impressive at any time of the year, but with fresh snow, you can’t beat it.  From here you can either then ski back to Tignes le Lac, or venture down the runs to les Brévières or les Boisses.  Or you could head up towards Toviere (check out the webcam and look back across Tignes and if you are lucky you might be able to spot Mont Blanc in the distance).

Well, the reality is there is probably somewhere in le Lac every night which has live music going on.  If you are seeking a dance venue, then Jacks club is the place to go.  A classic mix of 80’s and dance music, where you can enjoy pure cheese right through to the early hours!

Our preference in Tignes le Lac has got to be the Marmot Arms.  Great location at the bottom of the Palafour lift on the Rue de la Poste – perfect for après ski fun!  It is a friendly, cosy environment with a wide selection of beers on tap and their gourmet handmade burgers are perfect to keep you going on the slopes.  You can even head downstairs to the Burrow Bar where you can watch live sports, and if you are there later on you can enjoy live music, dance to DJs or chill out playing pool.

Alternatively, you may be seeking something a little more sophisticated, so head on over to Bar 247 in Tignes Val Claret.  The live DJ’s, tapas and dancers add a stylish dimension to this popular bar.

Here is a list of bars in the Tignes area, which has a pretty vibrant night life. Val Claret is classed as the most liveliest village –  there is a free resort shuttle bus to get you between all the villages of Tignes.
