There are plenty of special Val d’Isère events and activities planned throughout the season.  Check out our events calendar so you don’t miss out during your stay – there are some new things to look out for as well as some regular favourites.  We’ve put together a calendar of events, if you scroll down you’ll find details about each one, including how to book and ticket costs if applicable.  Some are repeated through the season and have the same meeting details.

November 2017

On the weekend of 24th/25th November the Tignes/Val d’Isère link officially opens expanding the world renowned Espace Killy ski region with 300 km of piste.

December 2017

Val d’Isère starts the season again with this spectacular World Cup Alpine Ski Racing event.  The opening ceremony is on Friday 8th December with a street party from 17:30 in Val d’Isère.  Enjoy the after parties & entertainment, games, contests, concerts, local meal tasting, lots of vin chaud, a race bib draw with the athletes and fireworks.

There is free entry to all the races and events from 8th to 10th December (Male racing) and 14th to 17th December 2017 (female racing).

Christmas 2017

Leading up to Christmas there is lots happening creating a magical festive atmosphere.  On 11th December 5 massive snow sculptures will start to be created throughout the week as well as a nativity scene and an igloo.  Each one will be over 4 meters high made by talented sculptors, they will be made and visible leading up to and throughout Christmas week.

Val d’Isère is a magical place at Christmas time and there’s something for everyone to enjoy, these are the events to watch out for:

24th – Father Christmas on the slopes – see Santa on skis at the lifts on Solaise 10:00 to 12:00, 14:00 to 16:30.  Join in the fun and games and there’s a best drawing or painting contest for ages 4 to 8 years.

24th – Father Christmas visits Val d’Isère arriving on his sleigh with his fairytale helpers with face painting from 15:00 outside the Tourist Office.   Visit Father Christmas from 17:00 take your wish list and have your photo taken!

25th – Christmas Day!  Skiing as usual.  Snake Gliss at 17:45 – fun sledges look like a snake on snow!  Join in the fun at the Savonette nursery slope – free of charge – for children aged 4+, parent supervision compulsory.

26th – Guided Tour: Once upon a time in Val d’Isère – a guided tour with a local heritage guide – sign up in advance at the Tourist Office up to 7pm the day before.  Meet 09:50 in front of the Tourist Office.  Also available for dates throughout the season (see timetable above).

26th – National Ski Instructors Annual Christmas Show and Fireworks from 18:00.  Ski style demonstrations, torchlight descent, fireworks, vin chaud, all at the foot of the Bellevarde Face.

27th – A Morning at the farm 09:30 – Xavier is offering a guided tour of his family farm – see the animals, cheese making, milk the cows and taste local farm produce – €6 adults – €2 5 to 14 year olds, free under 5s – sign up in advance at the Tourist Office – limited places – tour 09:30 to 11:00 – meet at the Adroit farm.  Also available for dates throughout the season (see timetable above).

27th – Yooner 17:45 – Light, manoeuvrable and comfortable new sledges – discover this modern activity to music on the floodlit Savonette nursery slope – suitable for children aged 6+.  Also available for dates throughout the season (see timetable above).

27th – Christmas Magic Show ‘Kio & Éva’ 18:00 – fantastic magic show for all the family – 1hr 20 – free for children under 14, €6 adults – at the Conference Centre.

28th – Family Giant Slalom race 11:00 – registration at the Sports Club – 16:00 prize giving.

28th – Backstage in Val d’Isère – see what happens behind the scenes in the ski resort – visit the Olympique Cable Car and find out about snowmaking – sign up in advance at Tourist Office – free – limited places, lasts 1 hour – meet at 15:45 in front of the Solaise ski pass office.  Also available for dates throughout the season (see timetable above).

28th – Gospel Concert – Singing in Val d’Isère’s church 18:00 to 19:30, tickets €17, children under 14 €13

29th – Floodlit Dual Slalom – Christmas race 17:30 – open to ALL – have a go at giant slalom competitive skiing – limited places available for women, men (born 2005 or before) and children’s category (born in or after 2006).  Free entry at the ‘Club des Sports’ from Monday.  Bib collection 17:30 on the Savonnette slope, race starts at 17:45.  Dynastar skis prize for each category.

Airstar Night Light

The village of Val d’Isère will be transformed into a street festival with vin chaud, illuminations by Airstar, laser juggling show, live electro music and ice sculptures to create lots of magic and sparkle.  Thursday nights from 6-7.30pm on 31st December, 11th, 18th & 25th January, 8th & 22nd February, 1st, 8th March.  A wonderful magical family event on the main street which is pedestrianised between the main roundabouts; take a look at this from last year:

New Year’s Eve Party 2017

Celebrating the New Year in Val d’Isère is a fantastic experience!  Bars & restaurants in the village hold their own parties and it is advised to pre-book tickets if you want to go to a particular venue.  It is a custom for everyone to gather in the main village for the big countdown followed by a spectacular display of fireworks.

January 2018

2nd – Airboard 17:45 – bodyboard on the snow steered by weight transfer – sensation of flying over the snow – try out this free activity to music on the floodlit Savonette nursery slope – suitable for adults and children age 7+.

2nd – Magic Show ‘Magic Supreme’ 18:00 – 1hr – magical illusions with Stéphanie Arnow – free for children under 14, adults €6 – conference centre.

3rd – Yooner 17:45 – Light, manoeuvrable and comfortable new sledges – discover this modern activity to music on the floodlit Savonette nursery slope – suitable for children aged 6+.

4th – Snow Show 18:00 – Celebrate the end of another year with the ski instructors of Val d’Isère – freestyle show, torchlight descent, fireworks, vin chaud, ECO CUP system with Vie Val association.

9th – Ski Mountaineering Night Race 18:30 – organised by Dynastar and Millet – races every 20 seconds, 500m direct ascent of Solaise, entries at the Sports Club, headlamp compulsory plus medical certificate of not registered with FFME/FFCAM.  Start line in the Place des Dolomites.

10th – Cross Country Ski Race 18:30 – American style relay race with teams of two, duration 20 minutes, free entries for the race at 17:30.  Prizes for winners.  Complimentary vin chaud served to spectators during race by the Grand Marnier Creperie – equipment loan by Intersport and Boraso sport shops – Dolomites Square.

21st – World Snow Day!  It is quite possible there will be events organised in resort to encourage children to enjoy the snow!

Classicaval

If you are a classical music fan then this annual Classical Music festival, held at the beautiful Saint Bernard de Menthon church in Val d’Isère, from 29th January to 1st February, is not to be missed!  Featuring internationally acclaimed musicians.  Dates of concerts and more information can be found on their website at www.festival-classicaval.com.

February 2018

13th & 27th – ESF Spectacular & Fireworks 18:45 – a festive, technical display from the instructors of the National Ski School  – freestyle show, torchlight descent, fireworks & plenty of vin chaud.  Meet at the Savonnette nursery slope.

15th – Val d’Isère Carnival 18:00 – 19:30 – a colourful parade from the church through the village onto the main street, special illuminations by Airstar, face painting & hair sculpting from 15:00 in the Tourist Office, Carnival parade with giants, stilt walkers, dancers and musicians.  Show on the square stage from 18:45 (main road closed to traffic).

March 2018

Classicaval

The annual Classical Music festival continues from 13th to 15th March, held at the beautiful Saint Bernard de Menthon church in Val d’Isère, it is not to be missed by classical music fans!  Featuring internationally acclaimed musicians.  Dates of concerts and more information can be found on their website at www.festival-classicaval.com.  Check out the promotional video above.

GEM Altigliss Challenge

This is the biggest student ski & snowboard competition in Europe organised by Altigliss from 17th to 24th March 2018.  Over 1000 students are expected to attend from about 25 countries.  Over the course of the week students compete in a range of challenges in the mountain, on the slopes and in the village.   It is usually a massive party week in resort!  Watch this to get an idea of what to expect!

Ride Her First

This is a pro ski & snowboard contest which combines freestyle skiing by day and live DJs and fireworks by night, which also forms part of the GEM challenge above.  It takes place on the Bellevarde face in Val d’Isere.  There is a formal competition as well as a freestyle session held on 18th & 20th March 2018.

Winter Golf

BMW hold a Winter Golf and Ski competition from 22nd to 25th March 2018.  Have a look at their website for a full schedule and registration information.  Check this out – longer ‘ts’ and red balls!

April 2018

La Scara

This is an International Alpine Ski Race for children over 3 days from 3rd April 2018.  It is open to boys & girls and attracts up to 1400 competitors; mostly French but also around 300 International skiers from 28 nations.  It certainly shows an incredibly high standard with some potential future Winter Olympic stars!   There is a final party to be held on 5th April from 17:45 with a musical parade and prize giving.  Main road closed from 18:00 to 20:00.   Watch this…

Adventure & Discovery film festival

From the 17th to 19th April 2018 this film festival will be held in Val d’Isere which showcases short documentaries featuring adventure, exploration, ethnic encounters, sport or expeditions.  It has been running annually since 1996.  You can get a full schedule from the Tourist Office.

Yoga festival

A 3 day Yoga Festival takes place in the mountains of Val d’Isere from 27th to 29th April 2018.  Recharge and enhance your well being – open to everyone from beginners to advanced Yogis.

Practise your stretches in the fresh air, clear skies, amazing scenery and wonderful nature of Val d’Isère.
